LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Lifeguard Training

The Lifeguard Training course includes American Red Cross lifeguard training, CPR/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for lifeguards, administering emergency oxygen, and First Aid certifications; all the requirements needed to apply for a lifeguarding position. Prerequisites

• Be at least 15 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of the course

• Swim 300 yards continuously

• Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or backstroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds

• Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only

 

Certification Requirements

• Must attend all classes

• Must complete all homework

• Must demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities

• Must demonstrate competency in the three final skill scenarios

• Correctly answer at least 80% of the questions in the three section final exam
